Point Park’s Conservatory brings performing arts classes to Pittsburgh Westinghouse students

Point Park University’s Conservatory of the Performing Arts and Pittsburgh Westinghouse Academy, grades 6 through 12, are partnering during during the fall semester to offer interested students an opportunity to take voice, dance and drama classes.

The classes are offered three days a week, with approximately 65 students participating. A performance featuring the students, along with an appearance and original song by Pittsburgh rapper Jasiri X, is planned for Dec. 16.

The partnership, made possible by a grant from the Pittsburgh Foundation, will be overseen by Point Park part-time faculty instructor Ernest Tolentino and the principal of Westinghouse, Bernard Taylor.

“The timing couldn’t be better to offer our students an opportunity to engage with one another in a different way and because we have welcomed students from the Wilkinsburg school district, we thought this was a perfect way of helping to bring all our students together in a positive way,” Mr. Taylor said in a statement.
